THE DETAILS!
I always like to highlight details in my work and share them frequently to reactions that seem to say that others enjoy these close looks too. As with human relationships, it is the details that arouse deeper curiosity and build connections--gives you that rush of "I know you." When the details are discovered we become involved and through them begin to fall in love. So, I am trying something out for fun and experiment with a ton of carefully selected details pulled out from my paintings and I am offering these favorite details as prints in their own right.
You can browse them here: Saatchi Artist Profile: Counsel Langley
I made a bunch of them, here’s a couple samples—

MIX TAPES FOR PAINTINGS, VOL. 4!
TO THE SUN 👀 solid enjoyment happening with this personal project. My aim is to make a set of 10. I've talked in previous posts about why I'm making these, and here wanted to share a conversation I had with my kid who got a hold of a Walkman and has been listening to all my old mix tapes. There are a lot of them, many from friends, many made by me for traveling and stuff. The music is so tied to memories that it has brought up a lot and has given her insight to what was going on at the time. We talked about how they are like documents, snapshots, but with all this emotional immediacy. The tapes have this affect of being like journals without the awkwardness or being invasive, so much is shared without the burden of unwanted specifics. 🔌

The Thrill of Constant Motion: Mix Tape Painting Soundtrack #2 🐺 this is a personal project, made out of love for mix tapes, a desire to see these objects, and cuz I think the music does a better job revealing these pieces than my words do--will keep on making them as I am moved to. Art Teaching <3
Back to school month, for many anyway. I'm looking back over what has somehow become more than a decade of teaching art--hundreds of students, aged 2 to 18, in a huge variety of public and private venues. I feel so much pride for these individuals and knowing who, how, and why some of this work got made makes it even richer than what these images can show. But that is private. This tip of the iceberg I can share. Enjoy some of the gorgeous work produced by my students.
