Wandering at the Threshold
Wandering at the Threshold
I grew up in shipyards and saltwater worn shops. There was always plenty of good drift wood, but just as often, I'd come across some cast off piece of scrap wood lying around. Some had particular appeal, these I'd squirrel away for forts or draw on them. This still happens as it turns out, and has brought ideas from my newest series: Emergence & Imagination, into an old pet fav, Distressed. (I LOVE low-tech special effects, and that's the actual driver of the Distressed series. But, also a result of the pleasure of found, naturally worn down materials--in this case old boat boards worn by salt, sand, and sea that need only a light touch here and here to give way to a story. It is the soft glow made from a back coated with fluorescent orange paint that reflects a halo for the rough wood that this series was made for.).
This piece is made to sit on a coffee table or a shelf, preferably among beautiful books and candlelight.
Made from found wood, acrylic paint, graphite, and ink.
11" x 4" x 3"
NOTE: this listing is for the stand alone sculptural piece, in the background in a separate painting to put it in the context of an ongoing series—that piece, Beyond Mountains & Moons, can be viewed in more detail here: Beyond Mountains & Moons
These two pieces are being offered separately, but ideally they'd go together to the same home, so I'm offering $1000 for the two if they are purchased together.
